Ciao Roma

To say the least, my experience here in Rome hasn’t been very typical. Not in a negative way but more along the lines of an experience of a lifetime that I will never forget for the rest of my life. In fact, I’ve even been considering living in Italy but, that’s beside the point!

With all that being said I would like to begin my story with a short description of who I am and why I am here at Torre di Babele. I will be in my last year at the University of Dayton (in Ohio), studying International Studies with a specialization in Marketing and Human Resources. I have been learning Italian for 2 years now at my University which is why I wanted to come to Torre di Babele in order to improve my Italian speaking and writing skills. Last summer I was only here for 5 weeks but fortunately I was able to come back and I have been here since May 12th.

Although traveling with a group of students from my University seemed like fun, I really wanted to venture off and try something new on my own. At Torre di Babele I was able to leave my comfort zone and meet so many different people from all around the world. Even though it seemed hard at first I quickly adjusted to being on my own and to meeting new people. By doing this I was able to grow as a person and look at the world from many different views.
Life here in Rome couldn’t be more than anything I’d ask for. What really makes Rome different is the blend of modernity and history along with the traditional Italian culture. From the beautiful museums, parks, and historic monuments to the ice cream shops, pizzerias, and discotecas there is always something exciting and different to discover each and every day.
At Torre di Babele I’ve had the opportunity to accomplish so many things and meet so many new people. Not only have I been successful in learning the language I’ve also been able to form many new relationships with people from all around the world. Learning the language was very important as well as being able to experience the Italian culture but to embrace other cultures was also something that meant a lot to me. I only have 3 weeks left here in Rome but I am sure they will be the most unforgettable weeks of my trip.

Hello out there…!
I think is should begin this post by apologizing for the delay on publishing this new Italian video lesson. As many of you probably already know, I have 10 different hats at Torre di Babele. To list some: webmaster, SEO, Project Manager e e-Marketing Manager. Lately, I’ve put all my energies in finishing up a fantastic new enrollment application for all you Italian learners out there.

Next time you come back to Rome, you can register, in 3 easy steps, in your own language and with an encrypted connection to send your personal data and payments. We just published it in 5 different languages to begin. I guess you guys know how much work we really put in it once you have visited the link below. Furthermore, it was so much much fun to develop it with the guys at Hypercube! So go check it out… and please tell me what you like or dislike… I’m open to all suggestions!

e-Enrollment Application for Torre di Babele’s Italian Courses

Now…! Back to the real topic of this blogpost: Situational Italian. There’s is no better way to learn that by understanding situations. Alvise, acts pretty well on this one. I think you guys (and girls, to be politically correct) will enjoy his acting skills and agree with me. Pretty good, isn’t he? Well more on that on the comments sections. You can judge this video lesson as much as you want down there.

The conjugation of the verbs with ending in IRE is quite difficult in Italian. At least it was for me at the beginning of my learning curve. There’s so much I’ve learned from different languages, and most of the time I use similarities among languages to learn faster, but I couldn’t find any for this part of the Italian language.

So with no further a due, here it is… Alvise teaching you to conjugate the verbs in IRE in the present tense. I know this is not advance material as some of you have requested, but we need to learn to crawl before we walk. So to all newbies in the Italian language, squeeze all the knowledge you can out of this one. Repeat it as much as you want! It’s free, ain’t it?

Regards from the Eternal city…. by the way.. spring had a great start in Rome… I bet this summer is going to be amazing! I honestly wish I will have some free time to enjoy Rome in its greatest season: SUMMER TIME!!! L’ESTATE ROMANA

Hi there!
We have finally finished the second free Italian video lesson. It took us awhile. I know… many of you were asking via e-mail, some even by phone, when the next video lesson was going to be online.

First, I would like to thank David, Sina, Alexandra, Susa, Wing and Eva for publicly commenting and advising us on many issues that they noticed about the format of the previous video (Reflexive Verbs in Italian). We also took at heart the suggestions that arrived by e-mail from other ex-students of Torre di Babele and certainly those of the growing community of Italian language learners.

By a show of hands! In this case a show of e-mails, we decided to take it down to the basics. So here it’s the Conjugations of Regular Verbs in the Present Tense. If you want to speak Italian you have to know the verbs very well. Without verbs our sentences will have no meaning, usually end up being fragments. In Italian there are three groups of verbs. You can distinguish them from their forms in infinitive: -are, -ere, -ire.

First Conjugation – e.g.: PARLARE.

Second Conjugation – e.g.: PRENDERE

Third Conjugation – e.g.: DORMIRE

What will you learn in this Italian video lesson?

Alvise will show you how you can conjugate regular verbs in the simple present tense. Afterwards you can download the PDF file. We have included two different exercises that deal with the conjugation of regular verbs, plus the respective key to those exercises so that you can track your progress.

So here it is! The first video of hopefully a series of videos to aid Italian language learners around the globe to learn Italian or simply clarify their doubts about single topics of the Italian language.

After consulting the students at Torre di Babele, we decided to begin with one of the topics that cause them the most trouble, reflexive verbs. In Italian the use of reflexive verbs is rather common when it comes to daily actions. Reflexive verbs require the use of reflexive pronouns for instance, “mi”, “ti”, and “si”. Ok… ok…! I’ll shut up, at let Alvise explain it to you.

I hope you like it. We look forward to reading lots of comments on this blog post. We will need your input to meet your needs, so don’t hesitate to add your suggestion for new topics or improvements to be developed on these videos. For suggestions you can also use the form on the index of Italian Online Resources.

P.S. I almost forgot… the videos show a hint of our teaching method, a direct approach to Italian, no translations!

Are you ready to learn Italian?

Enjoy the Lesson!
